Informational Meeting – February 26th, 2024

Commissioner Buckingham’s family were among the first settlers to Texas nine generations ago, and that tough, independent, pioneer spirit is deeply rooted in her personality. True to her Texas roots, her commitment to service began early, serving as a volunteer firefighter, and attending the Texas A&M Fire School. She is also an avid hunter, outdoorswoman, and steward of the land. She made history in 2016 as the first woman elected to the Texas State Senate from Travis County and she made history again in 2022 when elected as this state’s first female Land Commissioner.

Dawn came from humble roots—growing up on a ranch near the Texas coast and then moved to Central Texas. She has never settled for less than her dreams. Wanting to attend college, but without the money to do so, Dawn lived at home, working two jobs to pay her own way through college at the University of Texas at Austin. With endurance of spirit, she graduated Magna Cum Laude and debt-free. It was during college that she met the love of her life and husband of 31 years, Ed Buckingham. Dawn and Ed both received their medical degrees from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, and they have two children. Her commitment to service and recognition for her work has allowed her to hold leadership positions in local, state, and national medical organizations.

Dawn embodies the American Dream. Through hard work, a “never-quit” attitude, and perseverance, she has risen above her circumstances. Becoming a self-made small business owner employing Texans, serving others in her profession and as an elected official, she has always given back to her community.

As your Land Commissioner, Dr. Dawn Buckingham brings a lifetime of experience to the office. She is totally committed to helping Texans after a disaster, supporting Texas energy, ensuring that every child in Texas receives a high-quality public education, and securing the border to keep our communities safe.

Informational Meeting – January 22nd, 2024

Speaking at this months Informational Meeting will be Jonathan M. Saenz, President and Attorney, Texas Values

Jonathan M. Saenz, Esq., is the President of Texas Values, a nonprofit group dedicated to preserving and advancing a culture of family values in the state of Texas. Jonathan’s work on these issues spans two decades.

Prior to leading Texas Values (2012), Jonathan headed the Liberty Institute offices at the Texas Capitol in Austin where he served as Director of Legislative Affairs and Attorney for Liberty Institute (2007-2012). He frequently presents research, analysis, and testimony before the Texas Legislature, State Board of Education, and other government entities on various issues affecting faith, family, and freedom.

Jonathan believes in religious liberty, sanctity of human life, family values, and constitutional rights and has been involved in numerous court cases, including cases before the Texas Supreme Court and the United State Supreme Court. Jonathan is the leading voice in Texas on marriage between one man and one woman and he was instrumental in the passage of Texas laws to protect religious liberty (“Under God” in the Texas pledge, the “One State Under God” license plate, the “Merry Christmas law” and the “Pastor Protection Law), pro-life laws such as the “Choose Life” license plate, the Sonogram law, HB 2 and many others. Jonathan served as a lawyer for Gianna Jessen, a courageous woman who survived a late-term abortion attempt when she was in the womb, and is now a famous pro-life advocate. Jonathan was also part of the winning legal team that successfully defended the religious freedom and free speech rights of nonprofit pregnancy care centers for women in Austin. Since 2005, Jonathan has worked to protect marriage between one man and one woman and policies that support this principle, and he has helped defeat threatening legislation on these matters in every legislative session since 2007. In 2015, Jonathan was the leading statewide voice in Texas that helped defeat the dangerous LGBT Houston “bathroom” ordinance, that would have allowed men into women’s bathrooms and would have restricted the religious freedom on businesses and nonprofit organizations. Jonathan also helped lead the State Board Education victories to prevent censorship in the Science classroom and protect strong Social Studies & History teaching.

Jonathan has been featured in local, national and international media such as Fox News, CNN, USA Radio, Austin-American Statesman, Dallas Morning News, and Houston Chronicle among many others and is a sought after speaker for important events. Mr. Saenz received his law degree from the University of Houston Law Center where he was the leader of the Pro-Life Cougars group that successfully defended its free speech rights in a landmark court case against the university. Jonathan received his undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin, where he studied family policy issues. Jonathan is a 5th generation Texan with strong family ties to Central and South Texas. He and his family live in Buda and are members of Santa Cruz Catholic Church.

Informational Meeting – October 23rd, 2023

Fran Rhodes is currently serving as president of True Texas Project (TTP).  Mrs. Rhodes first became interested in politics when Obama was elected. She attended a Tax Day rally in 2009, and joined several grassroots groups, subscribing to their online newsletters.  Mrs. Rhodes started attending NE Tarrant Tea Party meetings in the summer of 2009.  In 2010, she took on  leadership of the Volunteer Liaison program, and in 2013, established the Citizen Advocate program.  In 2014 she joined the Board of NE Tarrant Tea Party, and in 2016 became Vice President, and was promoted to President in 2019 when NETTP re-branded and relaunched into the True Texas Project (TTP). Mrs. Rhodes is now helping to lead the organization and grow the grassroots army in Texas.

Mrs. Rhodes’ passion for this service comes from a desire to actually make a difference, influence what goes on in our government, and really make our voices heard.  According to Mrs. Rhodes, “Even when we don’t get the outcomes we want, people see that we show up, we put in the time, we do the work, and we are not going away!” Mrs. Rhodes holds a BA in Business Management from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, and is retired from a career in sales and marketing in the office furniture industry.  Originally from Illinois, she got to Texas as soon as she could, considers herself a Texan after 3 decades of living in the Lone Star State, and is passionate about fighting for liberty in Texas.

When she is not fighting for legislation, speaking to others about activism, or organizing the latest TTP special event, she is an active member of her church choir, and enjoys sewing, quilting and gardening.  Fran can be reached at , on FacebookTwitter, and MeWe.
