Ground Zero: Why Bastrop County Is the Battle for the Soul of Texas

Drive Highway 71 on a Friday afternoon and you see the future of Texas being built in real time. New subdivisions where pastures used to be. Tesla and SpaceX traffic from down the road. Families moving east out of Austin in search of land, space, and something they can’t quite put into words but recognize the moment they cross the county line.

That something is Bastrop County. And it is exactly what the other side wants to take from us.

The numbers tell the story

Bastrop County is one of the fastest-growing counties in the United States. Population has surged more than 30% in the last decade. New homes go up every week. New voters register every month. With that growth comes opportunity – and it comes with a target on our back.

The Travis County playbook is well known. Higher property taxes. More regulation. Bond after bond after bond. School boards that drift further from parents every year. A justice system that prioritizes activists over law-abiding citizens. We have watched it play out 30 miles west of us, and we are not going to let it happen here.

What we are actually defending

This isn’t about partisan politics for politics’ sake. It is about what makes Bastrop County the kind of place people move toward, not away from:

  • Property rights – your land, your business, your home, treated as yours
  • Public safety – sheriff’s deputies and constables who back the rule of law
  • Schools that answer to parents – not to ideology imported from Austin
  • Taxes that reflect a working-family budget – not the appetites of an expanding bureaucracy
  • Elections we can trust – secured, transparent, and run by neighbors, not bureaucrats

Every one of those values is under pressure. Every one of them is winnable. And every one of them depends on a strong, organized, well-funded Republican Party right here in Bastrop County.

Why grassroots dollars matter more than ever

Big donors get headlines. Local elections are won by local money. Every dollar contributed to the Bastrop County Republican Party stays here – funding voter registration drives, get-out-the-vote operations, candidate support, and the kind of unglamorous infrastructure that wins precincts and protects ballots.

When a sympathetic dollar to the wrong organization flows into Travis County, it eventually reaches Bastrop. The reverse is also true. Every dollar you give to BCRP is a dollar invested in the county your kids and grandkids will inherit.

Stand and be counted

We are not asking you to do something dramatic. We are asking you to do something consistent.

  • Set up a monthly recurring donation – even $10 a month makes you a sustaining member of the cause
  • Bring a friend to next month’s meeting – at our office at 443 Highway 71 West
  • Share this post. Most of your neighbors agree with us. They just don’t realize how close the fight has gotten.

Bastrop County is special. It will stay that way only if the people who love it are willing to defend it.
